My OTHER ride is... a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer dubbed "Mutineer" It has a 5.0 Ford V8, 5 inches total lift, (3 inch custom made body lift, torsion bars, and shackle in rear) BFG All Terrain KO 33's cold air intake duall electric fans MSD superconductor wires dual flowmaster 40 series and 3 inch true-dual exhaust Just got through fabbing a grille guard/light bar out of some spare JR parts. One badass ride, I have had it in the mud, creeks and woods for the last 3 months on a daily basis(check the twig rash in the paint...lol) and IT ROCKS OFF ROAD!! JR

Never seen a lifted Mountaineer before, or even a lifted Explorer after they got rid of the twin I-beams for that matter, at least not in person. Sweet Ride JR, gotta be the coolest Mercury ever!!! Chris

I had to custom make the lift kit, cuz after the Firestone thing noone wants to be responsible for a roll-over Among a few other tricks, I took a body lift for a 93 Expy, and custom made bolts for it as well as swapping to the electric fans, they work better anyway. Thanks! JR

Ya stopped too soon man, you're suppose to put the truck in park on top of the cars, not right in front of them. jk- nice pics. How do you align the leaf springs on the front. Thats one of the things my brother is debating weither to make a front cross member and align the springs with the part of the frame under the cab and move them outwards or make a crossmember near the back shackle mounts and align the springs with the more narrow front part of the frame

Here's what I did: First I welded a 6X6 1/4" steel square tube under the front of the frame to beef it up and give me somewhere to put the hangers. I bolted the springs to the axles, stuck it up under the truck, and marked where they would ride un front and rear. The rear Almost lined up witht he stock swing arm bracket, but they were a little too wide and pointed outwards. I cut the rear brackets off, bolted them to the springs, lined them up just right, being careful to account for te swing of the shackles, and welded them up temporarily. I will be going back and beefing them up ALOT, but it took alot of measuring twice and cutting once. The axle is centered laterally, and I have a trac bar to keep it that way. as far as the front to rear location of the axle, it sets abot 6 inches forward from the stock location so the top-loaders arent under the oil pan so much(that could be bad) but I would say I did more mock-up assembly than anything else, to be sure the axle would be center and the springs could flex. They are hung on the wider part of the frame, on the spot where it dips down (where the arms used to bolt up) I didnt use a cross member on that part because I will be making a subframe for that purpose. Hope that helped JR
