We had a GTG for DTW this past weekend, and a few comments floating around on our chapter site thats making me bite my tongue.
Not sure if it is just me, but these people that build awesome rigs, and won't do piddly with them. A few of our members got sweet lifted rams, and won't make them wheelin, won't take em too the track, pretty much just drive em around.
I know its just not the chapter I belong too, but this just finally set me off. I know if I ever tried posting at DTW they would probably slaughter me, but I feel if you build a truck, especially lifted, you should at least take it out once and awhile. I don't see what is wrong with the race track? I would love to see just how fast mine would go - course it would take forever to get top speed.
Oh well - just ranting........... Anyone else feel the same?

i completly feel for you on that one, yeah my truck is like pefect looking paintjob and everything right now, but i did already take it through my mud bog,
i can't see the point in building a truck for all show and no go...

I definately like to take my truck in the mud, dirt, and what not. Lately I haven't had the time though. Another thing, around here there aren't many trails. But yea if you have a lifted truck I think you should take it out and play once in a while.

I know exactly how you feel, you see that sort of thing at car shows all the time, then again with all the chrome suspension parts and stuff some people put into their truck I wouldn't want to drive it in the rain let alone get it muddy!! BUT that stuff isn't for me, when I look at a lifted truck I like to see it for what it is and how it could be used and the practicality of it. I would much rather have a 20 y/o beater with a lift and a big engine and a bullet proof drivetrain, than a trailer queen that looks nice but is useless off road due to weak drivetrain parts and lack of power and no flex. I guess it all depends on the person, mud does cause a good bit of damage to drivetrain parts and the body, I know because with all of the vehicles I have owned I have put just about every part on them due to breaking them off road, from entire front suspension rebuilds, transmissions, t-cases, rear ends, springs and hangers...ect ya'll get the picture!! I could see not wanting to mess up a truck that I put alot of money into and spent hours on detail. I wreckin it all depends on the person and what they want or don't want out of their truck, myself definetly function is much more important than form, but form is also important too, even though be looking at my trucks you'd never guess that!!! P.S. No it's not just you OffRoad !!! Chris

i drove mine off road more in AZ. There aren't a lot of places out here to do it, and I can honestly say I can't off road now anyway, if any thing on my truck breaks I'm screwed if I can't get to work. I don't know enough about cars to be able to fix anything that would break off-roading it. Once I get my beater I would love to take the truck on some trails, because if something broke I could still get myself to work in the morning.

I took mine out Muddin' once when I first got her, the guys from the Iowa chptr from DTW took real good care of me. Considering I got stuck about 10 mins into the run. I had a great time, but now with the simple changes I've made, I'm not sure if I want to take her out in the mud again. Now the track on the other hand, that's a whole different bowl of wax. I'd have no problem taking her on the 1/4 mile to see what she can do.
